An article in the N&O today tried to help employees figure out how to “manage your manager” in honor of National Boss Day on October 16th. But, it is the role of the boss to looking out for their employees so that they are worthy of such attention on National Boss Day.
If National Boss Day is to be taken seriously, bosses everywhere should be worthy–trustworthy, that is.
If you are a boss, are you trusted by your employees?
Are you Reliable?
Can they look to you for stability in the office? Do you show up on time at on a regular basis?
Are you Open and honest?
Do you share information with your employees? Do you thank them for a job well-done?
Are you Competent?
Are you actually able to do your job or provide them with the tools to do theirs? Do they trust you to get things done?
Are you Compassionate?
This is often the hardest one to achieve because we believe our employees don’t need this from us, but they do–they want us to care about them as much as we care about ourselves. If this had been the case in the financial institutions, we might not be in the mess we’re in now.
Good luck to the bosses on National Boss Day–be worthy of your employees admiration and respect–and trust.
