For Valentine’s Day 2004, we exhorted you to “Love the one you Trust”. This year, maybe we should all try to
“Trust the one you love!“
Are we trusting enough of the ones we love? We don’t really have to be so controlling, do we? Maybe for Valentine’s Day, the real gift is not the chocolate or the red paper hearts, but the gift that comes from inside–letting go.
Yes, I trust you enough to know that you know as much about raising the children as I do (even if we do have different ways of picking them up from school).
Yes, I trust you enough to know that you will tell me what is bothering you when you are ready, not when I think you should be ready.
Yes, I trust you enough to fill the dishwasher the right way to maximize space and capacity, even though I’ve spent years developing my own approach.
And, finally, yes, I trust you enough to know that everything you do, in every aspect of your life, is because you care about your family, and you only want what is best for us. I hope that you are lucky enough, like me, to trust the one you love, and love the one you trust.
